I’ll Be Doing My Civic Duty Today

It’s Election Day here in the Commonwealth.  And besides being one of the few states to call itself a “commonwealth,” we are also one of the few to hold elections for statewide offices in non-Congressional race years.

Which means that we do not get this year off from all those annoying political phone calls (funny how they banned the ones from telemarketers, but exempted themselves).

Three years ago I wrote about my first campaign season with caller ID.  Back then I figured I was smart to let the call roll over to voicemail.

Now my patience has worn so thin that I can’t be bothered to delete the messages.  So I apologize right now if you’ve tried to call me in the last two weeks from either a toll-free number or unidentified number.  Because yes, indeed, I did pick up the phone just long enough to disconnect the call.

One of my friends has a service with one of the Swiss phone companies for unidentified calls. If a call comes on her line with no caller ID it is automatically answered with a message which says, “This customers does not accept calls from unidentifiable callers.” Sadly, I’m not able to take that service because often calls come from Australia and Scotland with no number. Otherwise, I’d sign up for it straight away!
