Bluegrass Flora

This is my first post in response to requests for pictures. Feel free to add more requests, either in the original post or her.

Marie asked for picture of Kentucky flowers, so here we go!

Here is some phlox by our back door. I need to divide it. Again. Last year it pretty much took over the patio, so Mr. B just ripped some of it out instead of carefully digging, dividing and replanting.

Phlox

There aren’t a lot of lilacs in Kentucky. We planted one when we moved in, and it’s never done terribly well. Perhaps that’s why there aren’t many here. But a close-up of some of the flowers kind of hides the fact that the bush is rather sparse overall.

Lilacs

On the other hand, redbud trees do very well here. I had never seen one before we moved here. The flowers are actually more pinky-purple than red, so I think whoever named them may have had some issues with color blindness. We planted one a few years ago, and this is the first year it has bloomed. It didn’t bloom fully, but what flowers there are on it are lovely. So was the weather today, as you can see by the sky. This was a good chance to try out that 10X zoom on the camera.

I am SO jealous. :) Although just looking at them did make me sneeze. My allergies are already going crazy. We have rain rain rain today and are expecting a big cool down for the weekend (high around 40?) so we don’t have the burst of color yet, but the burst of sneezing? Oh yeah. Got that. Got the wasps, too. They were around yesterday for the 74 degrees we had. And there is a definite hint of sunburn on my upper arms, too!

    These are GORGEOUS. :)
