HS has the minivan for a couple of weeks, having used it to move closer to (no, not "in with") his girlfriend for the summer. So Mr. B has his little Mazda Protege back temporarily and I’ve been having fun driving the Honda Fit . I stopped to gas it up the other day. I was pretty excited to see that it got over 36 MPG on the last tank of gas. Of course, my 8.6 gallons still cost over $30.
I go to an old-fashioned service station where you go inside to pay. There’s actual human contact and everything (not to mention that that they’ll pump up your tires for free if they’re low and will check your oil at the self-service pump if you ask). I mentioned to the cashier that I hadn’t noticed too many drivers at the full service pumps lately.
"Oh, they still use it!" he assured me.
"Big SUVs, right?" I asked, since that’s the only kind of vehicle I’ve ever seen paying the extra 50 cents per gallon.
"I had a woman this morning paying $4.69 a gallon for diesel. And she was on empty. It cost her $147."
Gas would have to hit $17 per gallon for me to pay that much to fill up the Fit.
Have I mentioned lately that I love that car?
