Mystery Solved

I figured if I made enough guesses about HS’s news , I stood a pretty good chance at getting it right.

And I did.

We took him and his girlfriend out to lunch on Saturday. My son, the talented writer, pulled out a bag he’d brought along. “Remember my essay on Southern literature?”

He then pulled a scholarly journal out of the bag and handed it to me. I must confess it’s nothing that would have caught my eye at the checkout counter.

“Page 40,” he said, “where the bookmark is.”

“So I was right!” I exclaimed, and opened the book.

And here is what I found.

For the record, he never even submitted the essay for publication, so I left the book with him.
