Sports Ramblings

Last night we we attended the AAA Baseball Home Run Derby.  While Josh Hamilton was hitting a record 28 dingers in the first round of the Major League version, the most anyone hit in a single round here was 3.  I don’t have the numbers in front of me, I rather doubt that we saw 28 homers all night.  But it was a beautiful evening, we were with friends, and we had a good time.

While the Colts are my football team these days, I’ve always liked the Green Bay Packers.  How can you not root for a team that’s actually owned by the public?  I liked Brett Favre, too, but I think he is doing a tremendous disservice both to himself and to the team with his much-publicized change of heart.  Nobody’s going to look good coming out of this, and Brett’s probably taken a huge  cut in his post-retirement endorsement income.  And I’m not just saying all of this because the Packers drafted Louisville quarterback Brian Brohm this year.

The Chicago Cubs are in first place in the NL Central at the All-Star break, a century after they last won the World Series.  Even Mr. B, a lifelong Phillies fan (first place in the Eastern division) says he’d be happy to see the Cubbies win once every 100 years.

After losing my exercise mojo for several months, I am finally getting back on track.  I usually insist that I exercise for health and fitness reasons, but this time I confess that my motivation is to look good at the wedding .
