At the rate I’m going, I may need to add another category called “Weather.” February 2008 has brought at least one big weather “event” per week. On Thursday, we had a nasty ice storm. Schools let out as early as 10 AM, and most were still closed on Friday.
While the roads have [...]

I must say that Louisville looked pretty darned good in Extreme Makeover last night. I suspect the show got the same kind of local ratings as a U of L Final Four appearance. Maybe better, since even the UK fans were probably watching.
Having seen a lot of local (and even national) coverage of the [...]

Today our part of the world is a snowy, icy, rainy mess. The other day, however, was so glorious (40s and sunny now qualifies for that distinction), that I went for a walk near a local horse farm.
I noticed one of the farm trucks parked far ahead of me in the road. Then [...]

In an effort to write about something other than Christmas, I am going to talk about the weather.
After this summer’s drought, the weather has turned gray and gloomy. It seems like it’s been this way for months now, though the sun has peeked out occasionally. On the news this morning, it’s official. Our rainfall amount [...]

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition has been in Louisville this week, and it has literally been the talk of the town.
Instead of a makeover, this was a demolition and complete rebuild for a family that has already been in the news. Their oldest son, Patrick Henry Hughes, is blind and confined to a wheelchair. [...]

It’s Election Day here in the Commonwealth. And besides being one of the few states to call itself a “commonwealth,” we are also one of the few to hold elections for statewide offices in non-Congressional race years.
Which means that we do not get this year off from all those annoying political phone calls (funny how [...]

People often joke about how everyone in Kentucky is related to everyone else. I got a good chuckle when BD’s birth certificate listed my married name as my maiden name (suggesting that Mr. B and I were very close indeed). Then I promptly sent it back to be corrected.
This past weekend HS traveled halfway across the [...]
That’s what the University of Louisville baseball fans were cheering yesterday.
The Cardinals had an 0-1 record in post-season play prior to this year. Last weekend, our unranked boys staged an upset by winning their four team regional playoff out of the losers’ bracket. Yesterday they clobbered Oklahoma State in the third and deciding game of their super-regional, and now our boys are [...]
We have plenty to celebrate here today.
1. The Kentucky Derby, of course. The TV is on as I write. So far our bets are not panning out.
2. Cinqo de Mayo. The Corona is chilling in the fridge. We may be drowning our sorrows in it later if our luck doesn’t improve.
3. Mr. B’s birthday. Funny [...]
