HS: (Calling to let us know he was leaving his fiancee Nashville yesterday afternoon to return to Kentucky for the new school year): I’ll probably just be a little ball of depression at dinner.
Geez, first he gets engaged, and the next thing you know, he turns 23.
Happy Birthday, HS!
I figured if I made enough guesses about HS’s news , I stood a pretty good chance at getting it right.
And I did.
We took him and his girlfriend out to lunch on Saturday. My son, the talented writer, pulled out a bag he’d brought along. “Remember my essay on Southern literature?”
He then pulled [...]
We’re going down south of the (Kentucky/Tennessee) border to see HS this weekend to celebrate his birthday a few days early. We talked on the phone last weekend, making such exciting plans as going to see WALL-E with him and his girlfriend while we’re in town. He also mentioned that he has some [...]
HS has the minivan for a couple of weeks, having used it to move closer to (no, not "in with") his girlfriend for the summer. So Mr. B has his little Mazda Protege back temporarily and I’ve been having fun driving the Honda Fit . I stopped to gas it up the other [...]

Although this is still his official permanent residence, HS hasn’t been home for more than a few weeks at a time in over three years.
Much as we love having him around, his visits can be a bit of a trial.
While I have never claimed to be a good housekeeper, my clutter is as nothing compared [...]

HS arrives home tomorow night from his third summer running workcamps for church youth groups. But this time he won’t be heading south right away to start another semester in Tennessee. He’ll be starting graduate school much closer to home.
But he’s decided (and we agree) that living at home is perhaps not such a great idea. [...]
I can’t possibly be the mother of a college graduate. But apparently I am.
UPDATE: Welcome, Michele’s readers! For those of you who are new to this site and want to see what an English major looks like, you can see a photo at this post about another recent accomplishment.
