Scaredy Cat

Mr. B and BD just left to pick up two of her friends to spend the night.
The phone rang.  Caller ID showed it is another of her friends.
Not wanting to get caught in the middle of teenage girl trauma, I did not pick up.

De-bugging the Project

Scene I (last Thursday)
BD: I need materials to make a bug in science.
BGM: Well, what do you need?
BD: Styrofoam balls, about this big (indicating about 2″). And Popsicle sticks.
BGM: We have some craft sticks. So do you need me to buy anything besides the styrofoam balls?
BD: No, that’s [...]

Fashion-Impaired No Longer

I have never had a sense of style. I like clothes that are comfortable and inexpensive. Dressing up means putting on my black jeans and a sweater instead of my blue jeans and a sweatshirt.
Since I usually work either at my boss’s home or my own, work clothes are not a priority. [...]

Who Knew?

For some reason, BD is often embarrassed by my behavior.
Granted, there are times when her embarrassment may be justified. I have a silly streak that often will not be denied. I have been known to break into song at unusual times, with either parody lyrics or some I simply find appropriate to the [...]

Milestone

13

In any case, happy birthday, BD!

Overheard

BD (fashion maven, on seeing my outfit for church yesterday): “What were you thinking when you bought that dress?”

The Naughty List

I like to be surprised on Christmas.  Once I know that Mr. B has started stashing stuff in his closet, you couldn’t pay me to go in there.
BD, on the other hand, is a snoop.  I usually put the gifts from out of town family and friends under the tree as they arrive.  One year [...]

Thought for the Day

If you pay your mother to add the 200 texts-per-month message plan to your cell phone, you might want to stop at 200 before the billing month ends. If you send an extra 240 in the last three days, you may not see your allowance again till after Easter.

Monday Haiku

Laundry in washer,
Daughter home not feeling well.
Seems that work will wait.

Postscript

It turns out that I wasn’t the only parent who didn’t want to play field hockey last week. Only one or two did, and even they backed out once they realized they were the only ones.
So the girls had a little intra-squad scrimmage. No safety gear, but it was pretty low-key. I [...]
